Finally IN Seattle

Hey everyone!

I arrived in Seattle yesterday around 4:30 pm (7:30 EST). I was greeted by Mike, the site coordinatior and my two fellow YAVs. We are all southerners, so I don't have to worry about being made fun of for sweet tea and my accent, haha. My two fellow YAVs are Jeff from North Carolina, and Hailey from Texas, and so far we are getting along great.
The house we are living in is the Manse house of Mount View Presbyterian Church, which is one of the churches the program is affiliated with. It's an old two story house, but I really like it. It's heated by oil, which I have never even heard of. But we also have a fireplace, which I am excited about. We all have our own rooms, Hailey and I are upstairs and Jeff is downstairs. We have a nice size kitchen/dining room/living room area, but no dishwasher. Yes, Mom--I will have to wash my own dishes.
I finally got the scoop on the area that we live in. White Center is basically an unincorporated town outside of the city of Seattle, but it's part of the county. There is a huge vietnamese population, but the whole area is extremely diverse.
The weather right now is amazing, it's in the low 60s. There is no fan in my room, which in the beginning was a bit of a freakout for me, but we just opened up the windows and everything was great. We don't even have the air conditioner running right now.
Our first night in Seattle, we went to dinner at this wonderful little pizza place which reminded me of MoMo's in Tallahassee. We also went to an area where there was a good view of the city skyline, and finally we went down to the water, where literally you are on the Puget Sound, looking over to see all of downtown seattle. Seattle has a pretty amazing skyline.
Today is church day as Mike calls it. We are attending the Mount View Presbyterian Church for morning service. It doesn't start until 11 though, and it is literally 100 feet away from the front door. We are also attending University Presbyterian Church (30 minutes away), for evening service. Hailey has a car with her, so Jeff and I lucked out there. I do have to learn to drive a stick though, THAT should be interesting.
Well, I am off to do some more unpacking and get ready for church.

Grace and peace,

Kelli
